One-Click Quick Copy Variants Click any button below to copy that exact format immediately

How to Use

Paste a multi-line JSON object and click Stringify (Minify & Escape) to collapse whitespace and escape all quotes into a single-line string ready for .env files, Docker environment variables, or CLI payloads. Switch to Parse (Unescape & Beautify) to turn an escaped string back into formatted JSON.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does JSON Stringify do?

JSON Stringify first parses and minifies a multi-line JSON object to remove all unnecessary line breaks and indentation, then serializes it as a string with escaped quotes (\") so it can be embedded inside a single-line string literal or .env variable.

How do I store a multi-line JSON object (like Firebase or GCP Service Account credentials) in a .env file?

Paste your multi-line JSON key file into the input box, enter your variable name (such as GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS_JSON or FIREBASE_CONFIG), and select .env Double-Quoted or .env Single-Quoted to get a single-line assignment ready to paste into your .env file.

What is the difference between .env Double-Quoted and .env Single-Quoted formats?

Double-quoted .env values (KEY="{\"a\":1}") escape every internal double quote with a backslash and are supported by dotenv parsers in Node.js, Python, Go, and Docker. Single-quoted .env values (KEY='{"a":1}') preserve raw double quotes inside single quotes without backslash escaping.

How does the Parse (Escaped String to JSON) mode work?

Parse mode automatically strips any surrounding .env variable assignment (like KEY=...), outer quotes, or double-stringified layers, unescapes all backslash sequences, and formats the resulting JSON with clean 2-space indentation.

Can it unwrap double-stringified JSON strings?

Yes. If a JSON payload was accidentally passed through JSON.stringify() multiple times (containing \\\" sequences), Parse mode recursively unwraps nested stringified JSON layers until it reaches the underlying object or array.

How are newlines inside JSON string values (such as RSA private keys in service accounts) handled?

Newline characters inside JSON string values (like -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY-----\n...) are preserved as escaped \\n sequences when stringified into a double-quoted literal, ensuring the private key remains valid when parsed at runtime.

Why not just use a generic String Escape tool for .env JSON variables?

A generic string escape tool escapes the indentation spaces and line breaks of a formatted JSON block (turning it into "{\n \"a\": 1\n}"). This tool first parses and minifies the JSON AST to strip structural whitespace before escaping, producing the compact single-line output required for .env files.

What if I paste invalid JSON into Stringify mode?

The tool validates the JSON syntax first and highlights any syntax error (while still offering raw string escaping if you intentionally want to stringify non-JSON text).

Can I use the output in GitHub Actions, Vercel, Netlify, or Docker Compose environment variables?

Yes. Use Escaped Inner Content or Minified JSON when pasting into web dashboards (Vercel, AWS Secrets Manager, GitHub Actions Secrets), or .env Double-Quoted when editing .env files directly.

Are my service account keys or secrets ever sent to a server?

Never. All JSON minification, escaping, and parsing happens 100% locally in your browser using native JavaScript JSON.parse and JSON.stringify. Your credentials never leave your machine.
